Liverpool “have been looking” at West Ham winger Mohammed Kudus as a possible attacking addition in 2025, according to former Hammers scout Mick Brown.
The Reds are already well-stocked in attack, with five brilliant options for Arne Slot to call upon, and Federico Chiesa almost something of a forgotten man.
With Mohamed Salah far from certain to remain at Liverpool, however, a gaping void on the right wing could be left at the end of this season.
Speaking to Football Insider, Brown claimed that Kudus is a target for Liverpool in the near future, as they look at potential Salah successors:
“Salah would be a major, major miss for Liverpool. But they’ll be working behind the scenes to identify players who could help them replace him. It’s not one you can go like-for-like with, because he’s the best in the world in that position. You can’t find a player to do what he does. But I have heard they have been looking at Kudus as a potential option.
“He’s one of those players who can light up a stadium when he gets the ball. He likes to run at people, he can score goals and he can create. So he’s the type of player they’d be looking to bring in if Salah does leave. But he won’t come cheap, because West Ham won’t want to see him leave the club any time soon unless it’s a deal that is very beneficial to them financially.”
Our thoughts on Liverpool signing Kudus…
It’s going to be almost impossible for Liverpool to replace Salah, whether that’s next summer or further down the line, but Kudus could be a good choice to come in.
Granted, he hasn’t enjoyed the best season to date, only scoring twice in the Premier League, but teammate Aaron Cresswell is in no doubt about his ability:
“He’s a top, top talent and I think we haven’t seen the best of him yet. I won’t go near him in training because I know if I’m going to try to knock him off the ball I had better make sure he’s not looking and doesn’t see me coming. You just can’t get near him. He’s so strong, so quick, so sharp.”
Liverpool have felt the wrath of Kudus in the past, with the Ghanaian scoring against them for Ajax in the Champions League in 2022, and he would likely jump at the opportunity to move to Anfield.
It may be wise for the Reds to monitor him further this season, however, in order to see if his form can improve before being certain about taking a punt on him.
