Anthony Gordon was in agreement with Eddie Howe after Newcastle United’s 1-1 draw at Crystal Palace.
The Magpies didn’t register a single shot on goal at Selhurst Park but were just moments away from claiming a win after Marc Guehi turned Gordon’s cross into his own net.
But Palace equalised in the fourth minute of stoppage time. Guehi atoned for his own goal when his delivery was headed home by Daniel Munoz at the back post.

Howe called it a “devastating blow” and Gordon agreed. The winger, however, has called for a big improvement with United sitting 10th in the Premier League table.
“It is devastating,” said Gordon. “I actually thought we played and defended really well, and we were together in everything that we done. It was a proper away performance but it was just that last little bit.
“I feel like that if we want to be a top team that can’t happen. I think we’ve become nearly men too much this season where we are nearly playing well for 90 minutes, we are nearly scoring and playing well for 30 minutes then the other team will score and throw us off track.
“I feel like we are just coming up short too much and I don’t think we can do that too often if we want to be a top team. That’s two massive games where we have lost big opportunities.”
Next up for Newcastle in league leaders Liverpool.
“Gordon added: In the West Ham game, we were very good up until they scored. It was a matter of time until we scored then they scored (again) which threw us off track and we weren’t good enough.

“I thought we were really good that whole game up until the goal. I’m not sure if it’s concentration or not but that last little is pulling us back at the minute.
“Teams like Liverpool, Arsenal and City, if we do score or go behind we need to understand the game is not over. You’ve got to go right to the very end because those teams come and come again.
“Against Arsenal and City, we did that very well. We conceded early against City and kept going until the end. Against Arsenal, we scored early and kept going until the end so hopefully it’ll be more of the same against Liverpool.”
