‘Lack of class’ – Aston Villa star ‘made fun of’ Juventus player after Champions League game, Italian press not happy

Aston Villa were held to a goalless draw by Juventus in the Champions League earlier this week.

It was a frustrating result for Aston Villa, who have been on a poor run of form and came up against a Juve side which was quite depleted due to injuries.

Another reason for frustration was a last ditch Morgan Rogers strike being disallowed. Rogers had managed to tap home from close range into an empty net after Juve failed to clear a free-kick.

VAR decided to disallow the goal because Diego Carlos seemed to have clattered into Bianconeri goalkeeper Michele di Gregorio in the build-up, taking out the Italian.

Il Messaggero have noted a key incident after the game. They reveal that Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez approached Di Gregorio and ‘made fun of’ the Italian.

He mocked the opposition goalkeeper, mimicking the grimace after the foul. It was his expression of the fact that the decision to not award the goal was incorrect.

To Martinez, it was a foul that ‘never happened’. TuttoJuve have also shed light on the incident, calling it a ‘lack of class’ and they go on to state that it is something that the Argentine is used to doing.
