Frankfurt's Egyptian forward #07 Omar Marmoush celebrates
Manchester United sent scouts to Denmark on Thursday night to watch Eintracht Frankfurt forward Omar Marmoush.
The Egyptian sensation ended up hitting the winner for the Bundesliga side from the penalty spot in their 2-1 win over FC Midtjylland, with new United boss Ruben Amorim sending his men to take a keen look. Tottenham, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain also had scouts in attendance.
The strike took Marmoush’s goal tally to 15 in all competitions so far this season – and he also has 11 assists to his name.
Liverpool are also understood to be admirers of Mohamed Salah's international team-mate, who was the subject of two rejected bids from Nottingham Forest in the summer.
But it now appears that United are taking a serious interest in the 25-year-old, although Frankfurt hope he will stay until at least the end of the season.
Marmoush’s market value has risen considerably over the past 12 months, and the German outfit could seek close to £60million to agree a sale. Interest from multiple parties, and a potential bidding war, will certainly help their hopes of getting what they want.
Also at United, Sir Dave Brailsford, Sir Jim Ratcliffe's trusted confidante, has been backed to help Manchester United free-wheel back to success.
Simon Clifford worked with former England rugby boss Sir Clive Woodward at Southampton in 2005. Clifford believes attitudes have changed since then, and said: “There’s now much greater encouragement for sports to learn from each other.
“In general, people in football are much more open-minded. Look at what Jim Ratcliffe has achieved with Nice. And Dave Brailsford has been successful wherever he has worked.
“From a high performance point of view, Brailsford could come in and help any sport across the world. I think Ineos will get it right at United. For what they’re trying to achieve, there’s a big job in turning it round but the right mix is there.”
