Chelsea forward Jadon Sancho has revealed that he supported Chelsea during his younger days. He also detailed his experience during the Blues' UEFA Champions League triumph in 2012.
The Englishman joined the Blues on a season-long loan from Manchester United this summer, with the Blues retaining an obligation to sign him permanently.
Sancho, a London native, attended the Watford academy before moving to Manchester City. As a teenager, he joined Borussia Dortmund, becoming one of the world's most sought-after youngsters. He then moved to Manchester United in 2021. The attacker finally returned to London in the summer, ending a tumultuous stint in Manchester by joining Chelsea.
Jadon Sancho spoke to the club's media team about his fondness for the side, revealing he closely followed their UEFA Champions League triumph in 2012. He praised the great side for their mental strength, quality, and resilience, pointing out that the club's winning culture made him a fan. He said:
"For me, ever since I was growing up, Chelsea just seemed to be like a family, a winning culture. I remember when Chelsea were in the Champions League semi-final against Barcelona. I was with my friend and he bet me…he said if Chelsea won he would do some sort of forfeit.
"I can’t remember the forfeit, I just remember that when Ramires scored that chip away, he was upset! And then obviously Fernando Torres scored that last-minute goal to close the game out. It was funny. Then, obviously, the final speaks for itself. Drogba coming in clutch. For them to just bounce back the way they did, it just shows the mentality of top players, top teams, and top coaches."
12 years down the line, the 24-year-old is lining up for the Blues. He got off to a flying start at Stamford Bridge with three assists in as many games before illness and injuries stifled his rapid start to life in blue.
Sancho served up a timely reminder of his quality to Enzo Maresca with two assists to go with a quality performance in the Europa Conference League on Thursday. The forward is pushing for a start against Aston Villa, who the Blues will face in the Premier League on Sunday, December 1.
Chelsea loanee deletes posts of current club from social media
Chelsea loanee Lesley Ugochukwu has deleted all his Instagram posts related to Southampton as he struggles for game time at the club. The France U-21 international is spending the season on loan at St. Mary's Stadium after failing to break into Enzo Maresca's plans at Stamford Bridge.
Ugochukwu has started just two games in the Premier League for the Saints and was not in their squad to face Brighton & Hove Albion on Friday, November 29. The 20-year-old midfielder joined the Blues from Rennes in 2023 but managed only 15 appearances in an injury-hit debut season under Mauricio Pochettino.
The Blues may opt to recall Ugochukwu from his loan with the Saints, as they did with Andrey Santos from Nottingham Forest last season.
