Henry Winter says it is essential Everton maintain their Premier League status ahead of the move to their “magnificent” new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock.

The Toffees are only two points above the relegation zone and face Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City as part of a daunting December.

With this campaign marking their last at Goodison Park before moving to a stunning new venue, journalist Winter spoke about the task Sean Dyche has in retaining top-flight status.

Speaking on talkSPORT [1 December, 10:11], Winter said: “Sean Dyche has been talking in the papers about how there is always a new manager bounce and that will be the case with Ruben Amorin, we’re seeing an element of it already but that Everton are going there to make life difficult for them.

“But I think the issues in defence, scoring, you know they’ve got problems and they have to stay in this division with that magnificent new stadium coming down the line.”

Can Sean Dyche keep Everton in the Premier League?

The analysis from Winter ahead of the Toffees’ game against Manchester United is a pretty damming one but highlights just how bad things are at Goodison Park with key issues around their defensive and attacking performances.

With the way things are going so far, the Blues look like they will certainly be part of the relegation scrap in the Premier League this season which has led to questions about whether there is a future for Dyche in Merseyside.

There is extra pressure on Everton not to go down this season though with a new stadium coming at the end of the season alongside a takeover, supporters will see it as essential to be starting out their new era in the top flight.

While today may not be the make-or-break match for the Blues boss, should the Toffees fail to get a result, he will certainly see more questions being asked of him because with the issues that require fixing at Goodison, it is going to take some time to right the wrongs of the past few years.

In other Everton news, Joe Thomas was left flabbergasted after this moment in their Under-18s game against Liverpool on Saturday.
