West Ham have promised to BAN fans involved in a shocking mid-game brawl against Arsenal.

The struggling Hammers were thumped 5-2 by their London rivals on Saturday evening, leaving them 14th in the Premier League table. And it appears that the result got to home supporters who were involved in a punch-up during the match.

Footage circulating on social media showed a clutch of home fans involved in ugly scenes as the game went on. Stewards quickly arrived to calm down the shocking scenes.

It was suggested that a male supporter had been left unconscious but that has not been confirmed. West Ham have now responded to the scenes having launched an investigation and have threatened to ban any fans involved in the scenes.

A statement from a West Ham spokesperson shared by The Sun read: "The club is aware of the incident and will be working to identify the offender(s).

“In line with our zero-tolerance approach, anyone identified will have their details passed to the police and will be given an indefinite ban and therefore be unable to enter London Stadium and travel with the club. There is no place for this kind of behaviour at our Stadium."

The atmosphere did not improve at the London Stadium throughout the evening as the Hammers slumped to a heavy defeat. The hosts found themselves 4-0 down come the 36th minute after goals from Gabriel, Leandro Trossard, Martin Odegaard and Kai Havertz.

They rallied before the break through Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Emerson Palmieri’s strikes. But a penalty from Bukayo Saka all-but sealed the three points for Arsenal before the break, with fans opting to leave the stadium way before the final whistle.

The defeat saw the pressure crank up on boss Julen Lopetegui who has endured an underwhelming debut season with the Hammers. The Spaniard was forced to watch from the stands after being handed a Premier League suspension.

And he was left frustrated at not getting the rub of the green from the referee. Speaking after the full-time whistle, he said: "Overall, I am frustrated with the first-half. We deserved two goals, but they didn't deserve five. We were unlucky in the decisions, in my opinion. The first goal, I think it was a block."

West Ham are back in action on Tuesday evening. They travel to the King Power Stadium for a showdown with struggling Leicester - a game that represents Ruud van Nistelrooy’s first in charge since he replaced Steve Cooper.
