‘If he wants to…’: Journalist pinpoints what in-demand Wolves star is missing after defeat to…

Wolves’ four-game unbeaten run came to an abrupt halt as Gary O’Neil’s side suffered defeat to Bournemouth.

It was a dreary afternoon for the Old Gold at Molineux as Wolves lost 4-2 to Bournemouth on match day 13.

In another Premier League twist, doubts over O’Neil’s future resurfaced, with the manager getting a lot wrong against his former club.

O’Neil’s squad selection was questioned as the Midlands side suffered yet another defeat, in what could be considered entirely unavoidable circumstances.

Matheus Cunha criticised for performance against Bournemouth

The catalyst behind Wolves’ recent success has been Matheus Cunha, who was on the prowl for more goal involvements against Bournemouth.

Unfortunately and unexpectedly, it wasn’t the Brazilian’s afternoon at Molineux, with the forward’s performance resulting in some mild criticism.

After the drama at Molineux, journalists Liam Keen and Nathan Judah shared their thoughts on what was a disappointing afternoon for Wolves and for Cunha.

“Cunha unfortunately was way below his standards,” Keen said to Express and Star.

“He was not just marked out of the game by Bournemouth but when he did get on the ball, he didn’t look sharp.”

After Cunha shone against Fulham, the former Atletico Madrid ace was slammed back down to earth on week 13, which concerned Keen for reasons other than the result.

“It wasn’t his day and unfortunately that comes back to the question of consistency. If he wants to get to the very highest level he’s going to have to be a bit more consistent,” the Wolves reporter said.

Paul Merson has also questioned Cunha’s consistency this season, in what is a concern shared far and wide about the player.

Cunha’s future at Wolves is uncertain

Wolves are preparing to offer Cunha a new contract in a bid to keep the Brazil international at Molineux for longer.

This comes amid transfer interest in Cunha, who has been Wolves’ shining light so far this season.

Concerns over the forward’s consistency could be crucial given the possible price the Old Gold could demand for a player as important as the 25-year-old.

While O’Neil expects Cunha to leave Wolves in the near future, the priority will be to get the most out of the 2023 signing for the sake of the club and potential profit.
