Aston Villa have made two changes to their starting lineup against Chelsea in the Premier League.

The Villains are set to take on the Blues at Stamford Bridge on 1 December, with Unai Emery starting Ezri Konsa and Jaden Philopgene in place of Diego Carlos and Leon Bailey.

Villa faced Juventus in the Champions League in their previous fixture in the Champions League at home on 27 December, as Carlos and Bailey made the eleven.

The duo have been dropped in favour of Konsa and Philogene as the Lions look to close the gap at the top of the table, with a win taking them level on points with Enzo Maresca’s team.

Emery’s preferred starters have become fairly evident over the course of the season, but one call that is baffling in the lineup against Chelsea is the inclusion of Morgan Rogers.

Morgan Rogers needs dropping from Aston Villa XI

The Englishman, who recently made his debut for the Three Lions on 14 November against Greece in the Nations League, has been one of the weak links for the Villans in the last few weeks.

Against the Old Lady, the midfielder once again struggled as he completed just 75 per cent of his passes and failed to make much of an impact, with a combined xG and xA of 0.1, as per FotMob.

The attacker also managed to complete only 33 per cent of his dribbles, which was wasteful, as none of his crosses were accurate.

Rogers was also defensively suspect, losing one of his attempted tackles, making zero interceptions and losing 10 of his 13 ground duels as the game between Villa and Juventus ended in a 0-0 draw.

The 22-year-old could’ve been the hero towards the end as he found the back of the net in stoppage time, but the goal was ruled out for a foul on the goalkeeper.

It remains to be seen whether the former Middlesbrough star will be able to get back to his best with a tough challenge at Stamford Bridge awaiting.
