Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis has spoken about his desire to add to his footballing empire by buying a “huge” Brazilian club, while also making the Reds regular contenders on the European stage.
The 57-year-old businessman, who already also owner Greek side Olympiacos, has revealed in an exclusive interview with Sky Sports to be aired this week that he’s actively looking to add to his portfolio.
He also speaks about his coup in luring Edu away from Arsenal and his desire to work with the sporting director on a “global” project.
Sky Sports Rob Dorsett has posted a trailer for his exclusive chat with the Greek tycoon, which he claims is his “most personal and revealing UK interview ever.”
“Meeting Marinakis, Nottingham Forest’s enigmatic and mysterious owner,” says Dorsett. “Sky Sports news spent three days in his home town of Piraeus where we were granted access into the inner sanctum of one of the richest and most powerful men in the world.
“He speaks plainly about Edu and how capturing Arsenal’s sporting director is a measure of his ambition.”
Marinakis says in one clip: “I would like to cooperate with him on a global project.”
Dorsett continues: “We hear about his unequivocal desire to make Forest perennial European contenders. Asked if it’s realistic to think that Forest could regularly compete with the top six, Marinakis insists: “Yes...”
Marinakis talks openly about his repeated spats with the English football authorities and his refusal to stay quiet.
“I have no regrets, whenever we have been loud we have been absolutely right,” said the forthright owner and businessman, who, Dorsett says, confirms he’s in negotiations to buy a huge Brazilian club to add to his football empire, Marinakis saying: “It needs to be something major, something bigger.”
The interview will be shown exclusively on Sky Sports from Tuesday.
