Shaun Custis and Henry Winter both believe that Lukasz Fabianski’s punch to the head of Gabriel in the Premier League clash between West Ham and Arsenal on Saturday was right to be punished.

The goalkeeper had his eyes on the ball and there was no intent from him to catch Gabriel in the head but Anthony Taylor pointed to the spot after he caught the Gunners defender.

While it was accidental, journalists Custis and Winter felt the right decision was made.

Speaking live on talkSPORT (1 November) Custis said: “Maybe it wouldn’t have been picked up in the olden days but I think it’s right that it does get punished now.

To which Henry Winter replied: “Definitely.”

West Ham could have cost Julen Lopetegui his job after loss on Saturday

Julen Lopetegui’s role as West Ham manager has been brought into question on multiple occasions this season but the Spaniard has seemed to just about hang on.

Fans have been left wanting a lot more from their team with the squad not performing to the standards expected of them for most of the season.

Indeed, there has been the odd game against teams such as Manchester United and Newcastle where the Hammers have triumphed but these sort of results haven’t cropped up often enough.

Many names have been linked with the Hammers’ hot seat with the likes of Graham Potter and former Borussia Dortmund boss Edin Terzic linked with a switch.

Only time will tell what the future has in store for the Spaniard and West Ham, but if things don’t turn around soon, Lopetegui could find himself relieved of his duties sooner than he’d like, which wouldn’t be an ideal situation for either party.

In other West Ham news, a question has been raised about the form of Max Kilman by Tony Cascarino.
