This season has been a rather eye opening one for FC Barcelona even with the changes that have been made. Initially, it seemed as if Hansi Flick’s arrival would end up solving most of the problems that the Catalan club was struggling with. While that may have seemed like the case initially, Barcelona have since had to face reality.
With the high-scoring victories that La Blaugrana had become so accustomed to now behind them, Hansi Flick’s team and his methods have been exposed and their weaknesses have been exploited. However, there is one rather interesting statistic that paints a completely different image of the team when a certain player is participating.
Dani Olmo, Barça’s big summer signing for this season, has arguably been one Flick’s most consistent performers this season. Beyond just being a reliable creative outlet, the Spaniard has also managed to score goals from time to time that really help the team out.
Moreover, as highlighted by SPORT, the team has never lost when Dani Olmo has started for Barcelona this season. While he did play the second half against Real Sociedad in the 1-0 loss that Barça suffered, the game was decided based on a goal that was scored in the first half whereas Olmo himself came on for the second half.
In other defeats, such as the ones against Monaco in the Champions League, and against the likes of CA Osasuna, and most recently Las Palmas in La Liga, Olmo did not participate at all. This recent game saw the player watch on from the bench as he never ended up being called in to play.
The reason behind that is some discomfort that the €60 million-rated midfielder is dealing with, but he will likely be available to start for Barcelona against Mallorca in the upcoming game. It is clear to see that the team is struggling as a whole, but Olmo’s presence almost always guarantees a good result for them.

These performances, and even this statistic itself, prove that Hansi Flick made the right call in the summer. Instead of going all out for Nico Williams or any other winger, the German coach and Barcelona decided to invest in a player who understands the club’s system while also possessing the technical quality and versatility to help all across the frontline.
