The Chelsea player ratings from their stunning 3-0 Premier League win against Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge.
The days may be getting shorter, but Chelsea’s growth in the league is getting longer after yet another dominant showing against Aston Villa. While the build-up to the game was dominated by talk of goalkeeper Robert Sanchez’s form, it was Emi Martinez who made the game-changing mistakes.
Chelsea have found their rhythm, they win games in key moments and kill off the spirit of teams even before there’s a chance for a fightback. Normally, a single goal is not enough, but here they managed to quietly secure a second to ensure the security they needed.
It could have been more, with Nicolas Jackson, who scored the opener, missing a gift from Martinez. Enzo Fernandez, who scored the second, was great, and overall, Chelsea deserved all three points to hold on to third place. Even Cole Palmer, who had a generally quiet game, turned up to score the third, while Robert Sanchez kept a clean sheet.
In yet another game where Chelsea showed they were here to stay, below is how rated the Chelsea players out there.
Robert Sanchez - 7
Had a few nervy moments where his kicking was a problem, but he saved well and handled the pressure generally well. He’d be happy with the clean sheet too.
Moises Caicedo - 7
His starting position was right-back in place of Reece James and Malo Gusto, but he was very much in the thick of things in the middle. Was almost first to everything.
Levi Colwill - 7
Not many defenders are as young and fiery as him. When he launches into a tackle, you can feel it from the stands.
Wesley Fofana - 7
There was one instance in the first half where he got bullied by Ollie Watkins, but apart from that, he was solid. Hopefully, his injury is nothing serious.
Marc Cucurella - 8
Never stops running and has developed into a very formidable left-back for the team.
Enzo Fernandez - 8
Took his goal really well. He plays these days like he has a point to prove. He’s earned his spot in the team again with a stunning finish for the second goal.
Cole Palmer - 6
Maybe his quietest game for Chelsea in a while but he still turned up to score a brilliant third goal.
Romeo Lavia - 7
He was back in the team and did well to keep the ball moving, recycling possession for Chelsea. Tackled well when needed.
Pedro Neto - 7
He crosses so well, and his speed is a gift to the team.
Jadon Sancho - 7
He has something no other Chelsea winger has: the ability to slow the game down and beat his man. More of an assist machine than a goalscorer.
Nicolas Jackson - 7
Took his first goal with literally his first touch of the game. Had a few opportunities to add to it, but didn’t take them.
Didn’t influence the game as much as he would have liked after coming off the bench.
Full of running but didn’t have much of an impact on the game.
