Premier League: United and Chelsea cruise, Spurs held

Marcus Rashford and Joshua Zirkzee netted a brace apiece as Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim secured his first Premier League win in comprehensive fashion against Everton.

After last weekend's draw at promoted Ipswich and Thursday’s Europa League comeback victory against Bodo/Glimt, the Portuguese’s side thrilled the Old Trafford faithful on Sunday.

Amorim’s name echoed around the ground as United cruised to a resounding 4-0 triumph over Sean Dyche’s Toffees, moving up to ninth as as result.

But United fans' joy at their side’s display came with anger towards the Glazer family and Sir Jim Ratcliffe after this week’s controversial ticket price hikes.

There was a pre-match protest and audible anger during the game, while a banner reading 'stop exploiting loyalty’ was held up at one point.

The opening goal arrived 11 minutes before the break when Everton centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite directed a Rashford strike past his own goalkeeper.

United had tried during the summer to sign the defender, whose first half to forget continued when dispossessed by Amad Diallo before Zirkzee struck his first goal since the season opener.

Diallo shone throughout Sunday’s game, the 22-year-old providing Rashford’s second goal 20 seconds after half-time before then brilliantly winning the ball and setting up Zirkzee.

Zirkzee took a touch and played wide right to Diallo, who roared forwards and slipped in Rashford to beat Pickford just 20 seconds after the restart.

Rashford had a shot blocked and Jordan Pickford prevented Bruno Fernandes rounding him, but the fourth goal arrived in the 64th minute.

Hungry Diallo stripped James Tarkowski of the ball and ran forward before playing across for Zirkzee to sweep home.

Chelsea continued to impress under head coach Enzo Maresca as Aston Villa were beaten comprehensively 3-0 at Stamford Bridge, extending the visitors' winless streak to eight games.

Maresca saw his side score from two finely worked moves in the first half then from a Cole Palmer special late on, turning in a statement performance that showcased the rapid improvements that have been made since the Italian took charge.

Nicolas Jackson got the opening goal, profiting from ceaseless work from Marc Cucurella who won the ball in midfield and then streaked into the box to cross, before Enzo Fernandez finished off a wonderful move for his second goal in as many games.

Palmer curled in a blinder seven minutes from time but by then the fight was long gone from Unai Emery’s side who appeared bereft of belief as their fallow streak wore on.

Villa have now won just one of their last eight in the league and in the first half they looked like a team labouring under the weight of the world. Chelsea by contrast began ferociously, pinning Villa in their own half, seemingly out to disprove Maresca’s assertion that the Blues are not title contenders.

Tottenham lost more ground in the Premier League after they were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Fulham.

After an even first half, Spurs went ahead against the run of play at the start of the second period when Brennan Johnson volleyed in for his 10th goal of the season.

Ange Postecoglou's team never hit the heights of last weekend’s 4-0 victory at Manchester City and Fulham claimed a deserved leveller through substitute Tom Cairney before he was sent off late on via a VAR review.

Spurs dropped to seventh, with Fulham still a point behind in 10th.

Tottenham took the lead in the 54th minute when they worked the ball out wide to Werner and he cut inside before floating a superb ball to the back post where the unmarked Johnson volleyed home.

Fulham boss Marco Silva reacted with the introduction of Harry Wilson and Cairney, which paid off five minutes later.

Another slick move down the left saw Antonee Robinson release Alex Iwobi, who checked back and teed up Cairney to rifle home after 67 minutes.

Postecoglou sent for Dejan Kulusevski and he was involved as Fulham were reduced to 10 men with seven minutes of normal time left.

Cairney was shown an initial yellow card, but VAR replays showed he caught Tottenham substitute Kulusevski down the back of his calf with his studs up and he was sent-off.

However, Spurs could not find a winner.
