Chelsea produced a special display to beat Aston Villa 3-0 and move to third on the Premier League table.
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca continues to mould this team into his own image, and that was once again evident when he named his starting eleven for the game. The Chelsea manager had Malo Gusto, who has been incredibly important for the Italian, but he left him on the bench to try a new way of playing without a natural right back.
For the first time this season, Moisss Caicedo started the game at right-back but would move into midfield when Chelsea had the ball. Marc Cucurella held the left-back position but was also tasked with forming a back three alongside Levi Colwill and Wesley Fofana.
Chelsea have suffered massively from the absence of Reece James, his continued injuries mean this team must keep pushing and hope he can stay healthy. However, the fact that Maresca is finding ways to keep his best players in the team, including having Caicedo, Fernandez, and Lavia all playing together and influencing the win, is a testament to how he’s getting to know his players and how they are performing.

For large parts of the first half, Chelsea were the better side. They looked like the team that will go on to win something big this season, and that is credit to the manager, who is able to find new ways to get this group of players fighting for each other.
On the game itself, Nicolas Jackson scored his eighth Premier League goal to give Chelsea the lead, but Enzo Fernandez quickly added a second with a stunning strike using the outside of his foot, giving Chelsea a 2-0 advantage and almost breaking the spirit of Villa.
In the past, Chelsea might not have kept a clean sheet, but by the time Cole Palmer scored the third, the game was already wrapped up. This was a truly special performance, and anyone who had doubts about how far this team can go will have their concerns eased by these performances.
