Aston Villa lost 3-0 to Chelsea, and Unai Emery surely could’ve done better after what Jaden Philogene did at Stamford Bridge.
The Villans travelled to West London on 1 December in the Premier League and are now eight games without a win in all competitions following defeat at the hands of Enzo Maresca’s team.
Emery’s oft-confused expression on the sidelines isn’t funny anymore for the Villa Park faithful as the Lions are starting to undo their early-season heroics.
Villa enthralled the world after they beat Bayern Munich 1-0 in the Champions League on 2 October, but the last few weeks have been turbulent for the Birmingham club.
While Chelsea has been in fine form in the current campaign, this was the perfect test for the Villans to prove their mettle, and the Spanish manager decided to give Philogene a surprise start, which backfired.
Jaden Philogene terrible in Chelsea v Aston Villa
The 22-year-old got a rare start against the Blues and failed to do much in the 66 minutes he was on the pitch.

Villa hardly had the ball, and Philogene having just 29 touches of the ball wasn’t surprising, but the Englishman was a dud out as he completed just 63 per cent of his passes, as per FotMob.
While the 22-year-old did create one chance, his combined xG and xA was 0.06, and he had just one shot, which was off target.
The winger is known for his ability on the ball, but struggled against the Chelsea players, completing just 33 per cent of his dribbles and was dispossessed once.

With the Lions under the cosh, it wasn’t surprising to see Emery instructing every player to graft backwards, and Philogene also failed in that department, winning zero of his four tackles and just 64 per cent of his duels.
Emery’s decision to play Philogene instead of Leon Bailey was shocking to say the least, and the young English forward has now made it difficult for the Spaniard to consider him a starter going forward.
