Arsenal legend Paul Merson has warned Mikel Arteta about Ethan Nwaneri. Nwaneri has been receiving a lot of comments due to his superb performances this season. He is compared with proven stars which Merson thinks is not good at the moment.
Ethan Nwaneri created history as he became the youngest player to play in the Premier League in 2022. He was only 15 years old at that time. After that he has constantly improved and proved himself whenever given chance.
Nwaneri has became a first team member this season and has already played 11 matches so far this season. He has scored 4 goals and has received praise from every football great and pundit.
Recently, former academy coach Dan Micciche was the one to join the list as he had some really good words about Nwaneri. He said that Nwaneri is in the cateogary of Phil Foden and Cole Palmer. These two players have already created wonders in Premier League.
This comments will be viewed as big compliments by Arsenal fans. But, their legend Paul Merson who used to play in same position as that of Nwaneri is concerned by the comparison.
Firstly, Merson said that Nwaneri is really good player. He praised the player’s ability on the ball, his thinking and reading of the game, running and passing. But at the same time he is worried about the comparision with Foden and Palmer.
“If I’m Arteta I’d be worried. I’d be thinking, ‘please don’t say that’. Not just building him too much, because he’ll start thinking, ‘well I should be in the team now because I’m better than Foden’. I’m not saying it’s him but it’s the people around him” – Merson speaking to Sky Sports.
Merson is definately correct as Palmer ans Foden are very old than Nwaneri. Comparing him with them will only increase pressure on the player’s shoulders. He may hope to start every game which is not good for his development at such young age.
