Ruben Amorim speaks after Man United's win vs Everton

Ruben Amorim has given a reality check to his Manchester United stars despite landing his first Premier League win.

The Portuguese got off the mark on Sunday with a 4-0 thumping of Everton at Old Trafford. Marcus Rashford and Joshua Zirkzee both scored braces to seal the victory.

It is now three games without defeat for Amorim since he took the reins from Ruud van Nistelrooy. But the new United boss isn’t completely happy and has demanded more control from the off from his side.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: "The result was good but we were pragmatic. It was not pretty but we were pragmatic. We did our job, which is to win.

"You can feel that we have a long way to go. You can feel that in the first few minutes, where we were OK, but then Everton controlled the game. Then we got the goals in the right moment and that changed the game.

"You can't just focus on the result, you have to focus on the way the result appeared. Like before the game, we have so much to do, but it is better to work with victories. Let's focus on the performance more than the result.

"You can feel it during the game. It isn't a line of top performances, it is a rollercoaster of performances. We have some moments when we are good but then we have moments when we have to suffer. We did it again like in the Europa League. We need time to train and improve. It is better to work with victories."

Amorim will be hoping his side can make it back-to-back league wins for the first time in midweek. But he faces arguably the toughest game of his short stint in charge.

The Red Devils travel to the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday for a showdown with title challengers Arsenal. Ahead of that game, United forward Rashford has spoken out on what his new boss expects of the squad.

Speaking to Match of the Day, he said: "He [Ruben Amorim] is definitely demanding but encouragement to bring your strengths into the game. That is when you get a really good team performance.

“Hopefully we can build on this and keep pushing. It's nothing to get overly excited by. We have to keep pushing every day to meet his demands."
