Daniel Sturridge names 'absolutely ridiculous' Liverpool moment in first half vs Man City

Caoimhin Kelleher 8

Confident enough with the ball at his feet and barely touched it with his hands first half. Excellent stop to deny De Bruyne late on.

Trent Alexander-Arnold 7

Not much trouble from Nunes early on and excellent ball set Salah away for first. Began to struggle second half as lack of recent football showed, particularly up against Doku. Subbed.

Joe Gomez 8

Slotted into central defence with the minimum of fuss and covered the right flank when required. One good tackle on Haaland first half and so solid throughout.

Virgil van Dijk 9

Defended on front foot up against Haaland and real threat at set-pieces, hitting post with one header and just off target with two others. A real captain’s performance – well, apart from mistake that almost gifted De Bruyne a goal.

Andy Robertson 7

Offered himself regularly going forward during the opening quarter and alert to City threat down their right. Hard going against Savinho at times but stuck at it.

Ryan Gravenberch 8

Impressive in closing down City midfield during the opening half-hour and began to be more of a factor defensively as the visitors started to threaten. Booked.

Alexis Mac Allister 7

Not every ambitious pass came off before the interval but corner deliveries dangerous and linked play well. Defensive qualities came to the fore as City dominated possession after break.

Mohamed Salah 9

Dominated Ake whenever the sprint was on but needed more protection from referee in aerial tussles. Superb in standing up Akanji and assisting opener, and tucked away penalty after shrugging off bad miss second half. Subbed.

Dominik Szoboszlai 9

Set the tempo early on with excellent pressing, intercepting City passes and used ball swiftly and accurately and got off a few shots too. Second half more difficult but was running harder than most in closing stages.

Cody Gakpo 8

Didn’t give Walker a moment’s peace with his constant harrying and in right place to tap in opener. A proper shift. Subbed.

Luis Diaz 8

Plenty of effort, not least in terms of pressing, but not quite able to fashion many openings first half. Better second half, particularly when shifted to left, and did so well to win penalty. Subbed.

Darwin Nunez (for Gakpo 73) 8

Massive showing in which his energy and ability to hound players forced the mistake from Dias for the penalty.

Jarell Quansah (for Alexander-Arnold 73) 7

Impressive when filling in for Alexander-Arnold at right-back.

Curtis Jones (for Salah 84)

Ability to keep hold of the ball helped fend off City.

Harvey Elliott (for Diaz 90+1)

Welcome return for the midfielder.
