Manchester United legend Roy Keane has reacted to Liverpool's defeat of Manchester City
Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane has insisted anyone who predicted Liverpool to be nine points clear at the top of the Premier League at the beginning of the season would not have been taken seriously. The Reds' incredible start to the campaign continued on Sunday with a 2-0 victory over defending champions Manchester City at Anfield.
Cody Gakpo opened the scoring in front of The Kop 12 minutes after a wonderful delivery from Mohamed Salah on the right-hand side. Liverpool were not able to continue their dominance before the interval but put the game beyond doubt with 12 minutes remaining as Salah dispatched a penalty after Stefan Ortega brought down Luis Diaz.
The result opened the nine-point gap back up to Arsenal while the distance between themselves and City has now increased to 11 points. Arne Slot could not have dreamed of a better start to his tenure at Anfield and Keane was full of praise for the new head coach who replaced Jurgen Klopp in the summer.

"Absolutely fantastic, we have to praise the manager and he has done an amazing job," Keane told Sky Sports. "They were a decent group he took over, whatever he has added to it his personality...
"If you had said at the start of the season Liverpool would be where they are now you wouldn't believe them, you'd think they would need locking up. But their performances, defensively they are very good and their big players are turning up at big occasions.
"No way were Liverpool losing today, absolutely not. And it wasn't just their effort today, they showed great quality.
"The decision-making in terms of possession was excellent." Next up for Liverpool is a trip to Newcastle United on Wednesday night in the Premier League.
