Everton lost 4-0 to Manchester United in the Premier League, and Chris Beesley branded it one of the Toffees’ worst defeats.

Old Trafford hosted the Blues on 1 December, and braces from Marcus Rashford and Joshua Zirkzee sealed the victory for the home side.

Everton are 14th in the league table, two points off the relegation zone, and writing in Liverpool Echo [1 December], Beesley raised concerns about the Toffees potentially dropping to the Championship before moving to Bramley-Moore Dock.

“When the Premier League era kicked off, Everton had won two more League Championships than Manchester United, but other than a 3-0 victory here in the competition’s first week in 1992, there has only been one success at Old Trafford, thanks to Bryan Oviedo’s strike 11 years ago'” he wrote.

“Over that long period, there have been a myriad of different kind of defeats, but this is up there with some of the worst.

“Everton stand on the cusp of being able to look forward to a bright new dawn when they move to their future 52,888 capacity home by the Mersey waterfront, but they’ve got to get there safely first, with their Premier League status intact, and days like this are going to get nerves jangling again.”

Everton have tough fixtures after Manchester United loss

The Blues go into a period where they’ll find themselves up against the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea in December.

It’s highly likely that the Merseyside outfit will be unable to get any points from those games and go into the drop zone.

Sean Dyche has failed to bring the best out of the squad this season and has taken the team backwards since taking over in January 2023.

While the English manager has built a pedigree over the years of being someone capable of getting teams out of predicaments, the 53-year-old is the cause for the Blues’ current struggles.

Dan Friedkin is expected to take over Everton from Farhad Moshiri this month, and the American needs to immediately make a change in the dugout to keep hopes of going to the new stadium as a Premier League team alive.

The Goodison faithful can’t see where their team can get their next points, and it remains to be seen how long Dyche will survive the sack at the Merseyside outfit.
