Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has confirmed a fresh injury blow following the 3-0 Premier League win over Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues picked up a third-straight win in all competitions earlier today. They comfortably beat the Villans to go third in the league table.
However, the victory came at a cost. Fofana picked up a hamstring injury in the second half and Maresca believes he could be out for weeks.
He said "Unfortunately it is bad news. A hamstring problem. These kind of things usually require three, four, five weeks.
"In this moment, we lose him for 10 or 12 games. In the way he was playing, it's a big loss for us but we have more players and we can find a solution."
Fofana has formed a solid centre-back partnership with Levi Colwill this term and his absence could be a blow for the west London giants.
Chelsea have a hectic festive schedule. The likes of Tosin Adarabioyo, Benoit Badiashile and Axel Disasi need to step up in Fofana's absence.
Badiashile seems the most likely candidate to start at the moment. He came off the bench to replace his compatriot in the back end of the game.
