Jamie Carragher has insisted Liverpool should not simply give Mohamed Salah whatever he wants in their contract negotiations
Jamie Carragher has doubled down on his stance that Mo Salah should not simply be given 'what he wants' in his contract talks with Liverpool.
Salah will see his current deal expire at the end of the season and last week the attacker revealed he is yet to be offered an extension by Reds chiefs. Carragher branded Salah 'selfish' after those comments, which came after a win over Southampton.
The Liverpool icon has also been adamant that club bosses should not merely just give Salah whatever he is demanding to sign a new deal. Instead, he has urged them to continue with the strategy that has served them so well.
Carragher pointed out that it is the same strategy which saw them sign Salah in the first place. And he urged the Egyptian to curtail his public comments about his contract situation.

"I have no problem with Salah and Van Dijk. They are two of the greatest for Liverpool. I'm not saying he shouldn't get a two-year deal, I'm not saying he shouldn't get big money. He's on big money now," Carragher told Sky Sports after Liverpool beat Manchester City.
"And rightly so, he's one of the best players in the world. But this idea of 'give him what he wants', this club is not built on giving people what they want. That's where the success of the club has come from.
"Being ahead of the game. Buying Mo Salah for £40million when no-one else in the Premier League looked at him because they were ahead of the game in terms of the data. So I'm just saying Liverpool, keep doing what you are doing.

Salah scored a penalty to help Liverpool beat Manchester City on Sunday
"Don't be giving someone a three or four year deal. If you normally give someone an extra year, no, you move the dial for a Salah or Van Dijk. There's no problem with that.
"All I'm asking for is Mo Salah after every game he scores the goal and talks about his situation. Virgil van Dijk's in exactly the same situation and is handling it brilliant. The club is always more important than the individual."
Salah scored a penalty to ensure Liverpool beat City to go nine points clear at the top of the Premier League. And he hinted that it could be the last time he faces Pep Guardiola's side at Anfield.
"Honestly it's in my head. Until now this is the last City game I will play for Liverpool so I was just going to enjoy it. The atmosphere was incredible so I will enjoy every second here," Salah said.
"Hopefully we just win the league and will see what will happen. It's very special. I don't take it for granted. I'm enjoying every minute here. It feels like home. It's always special feeling always scoring at Anfield and winning games."
