“It seems with this club” – Postecoglou bluntly responds to Tottenham supporters booing

Ange Postecoglou has responded to questions about Tottenham fans booing at the end of Sunday’s match with Fulham.

Spurs took a 1-0 lead in the 54th minute at home to the Cottagers, with Brennan Johnson netting his sixth Premier League goal of the season.

However, the Lilywhites could only hold onto the lead for 13 minutes before Tom Cairney equalised.

Even Cairney’s sending-off 16 minutes later couldn’t swing the game back in Tottenham’s favour, with the hosts having to settle for a 1-1 draw that keeps them seventh in the table, three points adrift of the top four.

Not for the first time this season, Tottenham were met with boos and jeers at full-time from supporters who are sick of seeing their team fail to find any consistency.

A 4-0 win away at Manchester City can only be regarded as a stunning result if it’s not preceded by a defeat to Ipswich and a draw against Fulham, both at home.

Postecoglou was asked about the reaction of the crowd after the match.

Whether he’s telling the truth or merely deflecting, the Australian insisted he ‘didn’t hear’ the boos, while maintaining he’s purely focused on shutting out the noise and helping his players improve.

“Oh, I didn’t hear that,” Postecoglou told reporters (via Football.London). “So if that’s the case, no, I’m not talking about the supporters. I’m just saying, you know, I’ve had already probably three questions on the Man City game and why can’t we repeat that?

“And like I said, I think if you can’t see that even in seven days, we’ve copped a couple of significant blows since then I think, you know, it’s too easy to say, well, let’s just play like we did against Man City every game. And it somehow again, seems with this club that whatever it is that we do well is then used as a millstone to bring us down at every other opportunity.

“And I guess from my perspective, as I keep saying, it’s really important that we don’t react to any of that and just stay focused, because I just sometimes feel like, especially the players we’ve got at the moment, they’re just really working really hard for this football club to try and progress as to where we want to be.

“We’re in good shape, we’re still in good shape, we’re still in a decent position in the league. We’re still in the Carabao Cup, we’re in a decent position in Europe, so it’s about us maintaining our focus on continuing to develop.”

Up next for Spurs is an away trip to Bournemouth on Thursday evening.
