A closer look at some of the latest Premier League transfer rumours.
Following their defeat to Liverpool, Pep Guardiola was taunted by fans at Anfield and he hit back by reminding them of how many times he has won the title with this team. However, despite their impressive run, City are now down in fifth and trailing to leaders Liverpool by 11 points.
During the Sky Sports analysis, pundits discussed whether City are officially down and out. While Jamie Carragher believes there is no way back for the reigning champions, others think there could still be hope if Guardiola and co take to the transfer market in January.
With that being said, let’s take a look at some of the latest Premier League transfer rumours.
Rivals will ‘entertain’ offers for Liverpool target
Bournemouth are reportedly ‘expected to entertain offers’ for the potential sale of Antoine Semenyo next year as he continues to be linked with a move away from the Vitality Stadium. That’s according to Football Insider, who claim that Liverpool have been showing interest in the winger and the Cherries ‘will not stand in his way’ if he decides to move on.

However, a summer transfer will be the most likely scenario, as Bournemouth do not want to cash in halfway through the season.
Semenyo is ‘one of the names’ on Liverpool’s radar to potentially replace Mohamed Salah, as he edges closer to the end of his contract at Anfield. The 24-year-old is currently valued at around £50m but as he is under contract with Bournemouth until 2029, it’s likely the Cherries will try to squeeze as much money as possible out of a deal.
The 3AM Verdict: It’s certainly becoming more of a pressing issue with Salah, especially following his comments about how he hasn’t yet been approached regarding a new deal. If he is to move on, Liverpool will need to sign someone as close to his calibre as possible. Semenyo has impressed with four goals and an assist so far this season, and it’s likely that tally would rise significantly with the likes of Cody Gakpo and Luis Díaz supporting him. However, it seems more like Semenyo would be a solid rotational player, rather than an outright replacement for one of the best attackers Liverpool have ever had.
Newcastle ‘set asking price’ for attacker
Newcastle United have some big decisions to make in the new year as several players either approach the end of their contracts or risk being placed on the chopping block. One man who has returned to headlines is Callum Wilson, who has just returned from injury.
According to another Football Insider report, the Magpies are ‘willing to sell’ the striker in January and have ‘set an asking price’ of less than £10 million. Newcastle had been willing to offload him during the summer but his back injury put teams off registering interest due to his uncertain status.
Now, with him back in action, Wilson could find a new club in the new year. The January window will be the last chance for Eddie Howe’s side to cash in on the 32-year-old, as his contract is due to expire in the summer.
The 3AM Verdict: A move for Wilson next month could be the smartest decision for everyone involved in a potential deal. With just two appearances under his belt this season, and a plethora of injuries marring his time with Newcastle, regular football is probably out his reach where he is at the moment. An early exit will allow Newcastle to recoup some of the £20 million they paid for him, a bigger chance of a starting role at another club, and his potential new destination the chance have a quality striker on their books.
