What Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca did to Wesley Fofana after he lost a one on one battle with Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins, has been revealed.
Chelsea beat Villa 3-0 in their Premier League match up yesterday and simply breezed past them like they were nothing after Nicolas Jackson got an early goal to start things off.

Goals then came from Enzo Fernandez and Cole Palmer, who both finished their chances superbly. Chelsea went on to comfortably win the game and fully control it with total domination.
I think it’s safe to say that this performance was as close to perfection as we have seen from Chelsea in some years, against a top side at least.
The Blues are now in a very strong position ahead of Manchester City after this win, and they will look to continue moving this all forward and progressing with their clear improvements.
Fofana lost a battle

Maresca helped Fofana
Villa had a chance to equalise after Fofana lost a battle that he probably should have won against Watkins up top for Villa. His poor effort was superbly saved by Robert Sanchez in the sticks.
Chelsea reporter Rahman Osman noticed what Maresca did with Fofana after this incident. He wrote in his article for London World:
‘Maresca was quick to get Fofana’s attention, immediately giving him a thumbs-up and urging him to keep going. It’s fair to say that the next five one-on-ones with Watkins were all won by the French defender.
‘Small actions like that are golden, they keep players’ confidence high and push everyone to give that extra yard.’
Once again it’s great to hear things like this from the game, things that we might not have noticed on the TV or in the stadium. Maresca’s encouragement for Fofana seemed to have helped him a lot and is what he would have needed in that moment.
