Arsenal U21s were ultimately unable to keep a clean sheet in their draw at home to Brighton yesterday, with the visitors scoring a late equaliser.

Prior to that, however, goalkeeper Tommy Setford had made some excellent saves as the 18-year-old demonstrated why Arsenal were so eager to bring him in from Ajax.

After travelling with the first-team on their pre-season tour of the United States immediately following his move to Arsenal, there was frustration for Setford as he suffered an injury.

However, the prospect recovered and made his senior debut against Preston in the Carabao Cup, while he has also been the third-choice goalkeeper for the first-team, which has led to him being named on the bench in the Premier League and the Champions League.

Against Brighton Setford commanded his penalty area with authority, while he also showed that he is a very vocal goalkeeper as he frequently provided his team-mates with encouragement.

The England youth international is highly rated at Arsenal and he will hope that he will be entrusted to start against Crystal Palace in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup later this month, with Neto cuptied for that competition.

Despite his young age, Setford already appears ready for a loan spell of some description. However, that may well have to wait until next season as he is needed to provide cover for the first-team.
