'Nothing's changed': Michael Owen suggests there are still two ways in which Liverpool may not win the title

Liverpool took one big step in winning the Premier League title with a 2-0 result against Manchester City.

Arne Slot made it 18 wins from 20 games as manager of the Reds with the Dutch coach orchestrating a near-perfect game for the Anfield side, with Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah the goalscorers for Liverpool against City.

With Gary Neville in awe with Salah’s performance for Liverpool, the Merseyside giants now sit nine points clear at the top of the Premier League after a third of the season played, with the Reds looking like nailed on favourites to win the title.

However, Michael Owen has highlighted two ways Liverpool could not win the title this season.

Liverpool’s form and rival team highlighted as main threat to title challenge

Speaking to the Premier League’s official website, the former Liverpool striker noted that a rival team picking up form or a collapse from the Reds are the two main ways Slot could miss out on winning the title this season.

Although Liverpool are 11 points clear of City in the Premier League, the Manchester giants could still pose a big threat for the Anfield side, with Arsenal now looking strong again after the return of Martin Odegaard.

And Owen has wanted Liverpool about these threats, with the pundit saying when asked about Slot’s results so far with the Reds: “He’s has taken everything in his stride since he’s been here. A lot of people questioned whether it would be different after Jurgen Klopp.

Liverpool will have to learn to handle the pressure now

The Premier League is no stranger to teams taking an astonishingly big lead early on in the season only to end the campaign empty-handed, with Arsenal going through the exact experience in 2021/22.

And for Liverpool, they will be eager to ensure they don’t go down a similar route and allow a rival team to come in and swoop from the Premier League title from under their noses having taken such a commanding lead heading into 2025.

Indeed, Liverpool know how to handle pressure and will be ready to test themselves heading into some big games this month against the likes of Newcastle United and Everton, and Slot will be pushed to his limit tactically with the festive period upon us.
