As reported by The Chronicle, Newcastle United club captain Jamaal Lascelles is attracting interest from fellow Premier League side Wolverhampton as he edges closer to a return from an ACL injury.
Lascelles has been at Newcastle for over a decade now after signing from Nottingham Forest back in 2014 and going on to become an integral member of the team under Rafael Benitez, who made him captain in the summer of 2016.
However, since the arrival of Eddie Howe, the centre-back has found game time hard to come by, and at 31-years-old it’s easy to see why he could be looking for a way out to end his career playing regular football elsewhere.
Wolves, who have very limited options at centre-back, are believed to be interested in signing the defender in January, when he should hopefully have recovered from an ACL injury that he picked up in April.
With his contract expiring in the summer Lascelles is going to have a big decision to make in the next couple of months, though it does feel like the best outcome for all parties to find him a new home where he can get back to his best.
Howe may be loathed to say goodbye to a big leader behind the scenes, but with Sven Botman close to full fitness, Fabian Schar expected to sign a new deal, Dan Burn impressing at centre-back and Lloyd Kelly also an option in reserve, it could be a wise move to sell Lascelles before he leaves on a free next summer.
