"He has proven that he has got everything" – Ex-USMNT star Janusz MIchallik says 23-year-old Chelsea star is now making him eat his own words

Chelsea are currently nine points behind league leaders Liverpool.

Ex-United States men's national team star Janusz Michallik has insisted that Nicolas Jackson has proved him wrong with his stellar performances for Chelsea this season.

Jackson, who joined his side from Villarreal for £32 million in the summer of 2023, received a lot of scrutiny for his displays last campaign. He scored 17 goals and laid out six assists in 44 games across competitions for his club last term.

However, the Senegal international has opened the 2024-25 season on an excellent note. He has found the back of the opposition net eight times and provided three assists in 13 Premier League appearances for the west London outfit.

During a recent interaction on ESPN UK, Michallik was asked whether the 23-year-old striker is starting to make people eat their words this campaign. He replied:

"Mine to begin with. Not long ago here I was saying, you know, I thought that Christopher Nkunku was maybe a cleaner finisher. I mean, he has proven that he has got everything. I mean, you look at him playing back to goal, the way he drops in the midfield, the way he turns and immediately offers himself to go behind the back four, back three or whatever it may be. [He is] good in the air."

Jackson, who has a contract until June 2033 at his club, will next be in action on Wednesday (December 4). The right-footed forward is likely to start Chelsea's Premier League encounter against Southampton at St. Mary's Stadium.

Liverpool legend names 2 Chelsea players as reason why Blues will fail to win title this term

During a recent chat on ESPN FC, Liverpool legend Steve Nicol claimed that Chelsea will fail to maintain a title challenge this season due to Robert Sanchez and Wesley Fofana. He said:

"I don't think they are title contenders, no. I'm not a fan of the goalkeeper and I'm not a fan, particularly, of Fofana. It seems like recently they have taken less chances defensively. I wonder how long that lasts or if that's just something that Maresca has turned around and said: 'Right, we aren't doing this' or whether this is just a little fad where they have decided not to be overly taking chances."

Sanchez, who is Chelsea's first-choice goalkeeper, has kept four clean sheets and conceded 14 goals in 13 Premier League games this term.

Fofana, on the other hand, has started all 12 of his league appearances after recovering from a long-term anterior cruciate ligament injury.
