Arsenal handed huge boost as Man United will now miss two key players

Ahead of the Arsenal vs Man United derby on Wednesday evening, Man United have confirmed they will be missing two key players. A big boost for Mikel Arteta.

A lot has been going Arsenal's way recently. They are seeing shades of the start of 2024, whereby Arsenal scored a flurry of goals on the bounce. In their last two away matches, they have scored 10 goals.

While they return to the Emirates Stadium in midweek, Arsenal fans will hope more than ever that their goal-scoring exploits continue. This is because they face their long-time rivals Man United, which always makes for an interesting affair.

In the buildup to the derby day, Man United have been handed a significant blow, which comes as a boost to Arsenal.

Man United released a statement to their official club website at the weekend. They confirmed that both Kobbie Mainoo and Lisandro Martinez are unavailable for selection against Arsenal, due to a suspension.

Both players were shown yellow cards at the weekend, in Ruben Amorim's second win as Man United boss. Since they have now picked up five yellow cards, both players will serve a one-match suspension, to be served against Arsenal in midweek.

Considering Man United's injury concerns at the start of this season, they would have been hopeful about putting together some momentum. Without a doubt, this comes as a severe blow, even if Amorim would be the last to admit it.

Arsenal already had the upper-hand. While they have Ben White out missing, all of their other key players are available for selection. This aside, Arsenal have a much stronger team than Wednesday's visitors, anyway.

On this note, we would be remiss not to mention the Arsenal players at risk of suspension. While no players are suspended for Man United's match, Gabriel Jesus could face a one-match ban if he picks up a yellow card against Man United - Jesus has four yellow cards in the Premier League, the most of any Arsenal player this season.
