Ruben Amorim will hold talks over Amad Diallo’s future at Manchester United as the winger approaches the final six months of his contract.

Amad has featured in all three of Amorim’s matches since his appointment as United head coach and the 22-year-old appears to have a bright future in the 3-4-3 system the Portuguese wants to use.

But his current terms, signed when he arrived at the club from Atalanta in 2021, have only seven months to run. The club do hold an option to extend for a further season but a decision needs to be made before January, and the player then informed if the extra 12 months have been triggered.

United sources say Amad’s contract is firmly on the agenda in the next weeks, with his future in sharp focus after starting both of Amorim’s Premier League games so far and drawing praise from his manager.

If the extension is not triggered, he can talk to other clubs about a pre-contract for the 2025-26 season from January, when he would become one of the most sought-after free agents next summer.

However, indicators so far have been of Amorim having a player he believes can fit into his system. He started the former Atalanta winger against Ipswich and Everton, while bringing him off the bench against Bodo Glimt in the Europa League win in midweek.

“He was really good again,” said Amorim after the Everton win. “He’s in a great moment, but that moment starts with the group. So, I just take advantage of Ruud’s [van Nistelrooy] work with Amad.

“Amad was really good defensively and really good attacking and he has to continue to play like that. You could feel at the end of the game that he was really, really tired so we also have to manage that as he increases the physical ability.”
