There was a lot of hype among Kylian Mbappe’s and Real Madrid fans when the news broke out that the French superstar would be joining the La Liga champions ahead of the 2024-25 season. Mbappe officially joined Real Madrid in June this year for a reported fee of €15 million a year post taxes and signed a contract till 2029, after having left Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) at the end of the 2023-24 season.
Mbappe has played 19 matches for Real Madrid so far, and has scored just 10 goals while assisting twice. This includes eight goals in La Liga and one each in the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Super Cup.
Mbappe’s injury woes
Adding to his woes, the 25-year-old picked up a thigh injury in late September, and was out of action for three weeks. However, Mbappe did return to action on 2 October for Madrid’s Champions League match against Lille, which the Spanish giants lost 1-0 in France. Since then, Mbappe has scored just three goals, all of them coming in La Liga, and assisting once (vs Borussia Dortmund in Champions League).
Mbappe is currently fourth in the top scorers list in La Liga. Robert Lewandowski leads the scoring charts with 15 goals, followed by Raphinha (Second, nine goals), Vinicius Junior (third, eight goals) and Mbappe (Fourth, eight goals).
