Nottingham Forest sent 'hard pass' transfer message as January priority identified

It could be a relatively quiet winter transfer window for Nottingham Forest, but there is still one key area in need of particular attention when January comes around.

The Reds tried to strengthen their attacking ranks in the summer but didn’t manage to get a deal over the line. They are expected to try again in the new year in order to ensure head coach Nuno Espirito Santo has sufficient options up front.

It seems plenty of Forest fans would like a striker to be top of the club’s shopping list. But many are not keen on one particular name being linked with a January move to the City Ground.

According to Spanish website Fichajes, the Reds are interested in Everton forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur are also said to be keeping tabs on him.

The 27-year-old has scored two goals in 13 Premier League appearances for the Toffees so far this season. And for a number of Forest supporters, his goal stats and previous injury record count against him. Below is what they have been saying about the latest transfer link on NottinghamshireLive.

Crawford981: Let's hope this is just paper talk cuz he is to injury prone and does not score enough goals so it's definitely a no thanks

Captain Alvarado: Hard pass on that one

Rodrest: I thought forest were going forward with decent players not has beens that can't stay fit and doesn't score many goals. For me it's a big NO NO NO

notts44: BIG BIG NO

Redken61: Dear God no. Can't finish.

Readingred: Can’t hit a barn door with a banjo.

Calvert-Lewin might not be top of supporters’ list but the Reds have been linked with a number of other attackers. Corinthians’ Yuri Alberto, Botafogo’s Igor Jesus, Bayern Munich’s Mathys Tel and Burnley’s Luca Koleosho are all said to have caught Forest’s eye.

Chris Wood has started the season in fine form for club and country, but Taiwo Awoniyi has been hindered by form and fitness and is yet to get on the scoresheet this term. Additional goalscoring support for the second half of the campaign would be a big boost for Nuno’s side, as fans have pointed out.

mikkhntl: Definitely need a striker. Awoniyi seems a lost cause and Wood is unlikely to stay fit for the whole season. We've probably got to take a chance on an up and coming youngster, rather than an expensive established name.

EdwardIX: Tel is a good buy. But perhaps 1 for the future. I'd take Alberto from this lot. He's good.

StewyDeano: I say we wait till Ipswich are relegated and grab Liam Delap in the summer

redgeezer49: We are a different animal to the start of the season. Players will view us very differently come January to what they assumed would be the case with us in August. With the relegation scrap monkey off our shoulders players will see a route to furthering their careers. Especially as we only have one fit forward. Game time guaranteed.
