Marc Guehi may have scored his first Newcastle United goal on Saturday, but a transfer to St James’ Park does not appear to be likely.
Newcastle drew 1-1 with Crystal Palace on Saturday, with Marc Guehi scoring an own goal. It was incredibly ironic given how desperate Newcastle were to sign the 24-year-old in the summer.
But while Newcastle would still love to sign Guehi, a move to Tyneside in January does not appear to be on the cards.
Guehi is not going to leave Crystal Palace in January, which means the Magpies will either have to wait until the summer or find an alternative centre-back target.

While Eddie Howe would obviously love to work with Guehi at St James’ Park, Toon officials do have alternatives on their radar.
Newcastle have scouted Abdukodir Khusanov, while they could also reignite their interest in a former target.
That is according to Calciomercato in Italy, who claim that Newcastle are ‘at the forefront’ of English clubs that are interested in AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori.
They report that Tomori could leave AC Milan in 2025, with the 26-year-old possibly available for less than £25million.

Calciomercato add that Juventus are looking at Tomori, while Aston Villa and West Ham are also fans of the former Chelsea centre-back.
How Newcastle United felt about Tomori transfer last summer
Newcastle’s interest in Tomori is not new. He was a Toon target back in 2021, while Eddie Howe’s side were interested in a deal at the start of the most recent transfer window.
While Newcastle tried to land Malick Thiaw, they were first interested in his AC Milan teammate. However, it was reported that Newcastle were put off signing Tomori due to the Serie A giants wanting £37million for him.
Now Tomori could be available for significantly less than that amount, with AC Milan possibly willing to sell him for under £25million.
That would represent a bit of a bargain for Newcastle, which would be ideal as they continue to try and stay the right side of PSR.
With the Guehi deal currently off, signing Tomori instead could save Newcastle a lot of money. In turn, that would allow the club to invest in other areas of the pitch.
However, Tomori’s age could be a concern, with the England international due to turn 27 on December 19th. That might put Paul Mitchell off, with the Newcastle United sporting director focussing on signing players who are under the age of 25.
