Liverpool boss Arne Slot has sent Reds supporters a Premier League title warning after the win over Manchester City.
Goals from Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo saw Liverpool beat City 2-0 at Anfield, moving them 11 points clear of the reigning Premier League champions. It also moved them nine clear of Arsenal and Chelsea, who both won their matches against West Ham and Aston Villa over the weekend.
The Gunners and Blues sit second and third respectively on 25 points. The pair will be looking to pounce upon any poor results for the Reds which see them drop points over the hectic Christmas period.
And speaking to BBC Radio 5Live following the win over Man City, Liverpool boss Slot praised both Arsenal and Chelsea, adding that both sides were capable of winning all their games until the rest of the season, guarding against complacency in the Reds ranks.
"It is a good position to be in. You guys know better than me that Arsenal and City are able to win every game from now till the end [of the season].
"Chelsea are able to win every game. It makes the Premier League so interesting - there's so many good teams. Last season there was a big difference in points between Arsenal and City and they were still able to come back."
Liverpool.com says: "While Liverpool currently sit nine points clear of Arsenal and Chelsea and 11 clear of Brighton and Man City, Slot is right to guard against complacency. Liverpool has the opportunity to do something special this term in both the Premier League and Champions League, but their title dreams will not be realized if they start buying into their own hype. The Dutchman needs to keep this Reds squad hungry for success, something which will only happen if Liverpool take games one at a time now they have built up a sizeable lead in the Premier League."
