Mauricio Pochettino 'amazing' Mykhailo Mudryk verdict Newcastle United will love

Chelsea's Mykhailo Mudryk could join Newcastle United on loan in January

Chelsea's Mykhailo Mudryk could join Newcastle United on loan in January

Former Chelsea and Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has branded reported Newcastle United target Mykhailo Mudryk an 'amazing talent' ahead of potential January loan move,

Mudryk has emerged as a target for Eddie Howe's side ahead of a busy January transfer window. Crystal Palace and Barcelona are also reportedly eyeing up a winter move for the pacey player. Brentford's Bryan Mbuemo, Bournemouth's Antoine Semenyo and PSV's Johan Bakayoko are also of interest for Magpies.

The winger joined Chelsea in January 2023 in a £62million move from Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk. Despite regularly appearing in the Premier League, Mudryk has failed to nail down a starting spot at Stamford Bridge.

Former Chelsea manager Pochettino, currently United States head coach, worked with the Ukraine international between July 2023 and May 2024, and the 52-year-old believes that Mudryk needs game time if he his going to produce his best.

“Mudryk has an amazing talent, but he has to play football," Pochettino has previously said. "You need to put your talent in the team. For that, you need time. It’s not only Mudryk. You know very well in this level, you need to work with and without the ball.”

So far this campaign, the 23-year-old has has played 15 times and has scored three goals - including one in Chelsea's recent 2-0 Europa Conference League win over Heidenheim. He only came on for the last 15 minutes in his side's victory over Newcastle in October.

Current Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has limited Mudryk to just 146 minutes in the Premier League with Pedro Neto and Noni Madueke often starting on the wings. According to Football Insider, Chelsea are ready to depart with the forward.

Former scout Mick Brown said: “I think they’ve got the makings of a very good team at Chelsea, but he isn’t likely to be a part of that. There isn’t space for him in the team at the moment and I don’t think Maresca has been particularly impressed by him so far.

“But I don’t think they’re likely to make a profit on him or even get their money back, let’s put it that way. He’s on a big contract too, which they’d like to get off the books if they can. I think, if clubs do make a move for him, they’ll probably look to pay around £30million at most. So Chelsea might have to bite the bullet and accept that if they really want to move him on. They’ll have to cut their losses.“
