Andy Robertson says what was unusual about Man City's display vs Liverpool after first-half Arne Slot tactic

Liverpool enjoyed another statement win in the Premier League with a 2-0 result against Manchester City.

The Reds comfortably beat the reigning English champions at Anfield with Liverpool going an incredible 11 points clear of City heading into the festive period, with Arne Slot winning 18 of his first 20 games in charge of the Merseyside giants.

With Slot explaining why he doesn’t feel any sympathy for Pep Guardiola after the full-time whistle, Liverpool are enjoying a run of form few would have predicted when the Dutch manager was announced as Jurgen Klopp’s successor.

And Andy Robertson has now shared what was unusual about City’s performance in the first half.

Robertson surprised by how many mistakes Manchester City made

Speaking to Stadium Astro, the Scottish international highlighted how unusual it was for City to make so many mistakes in the first half, with Slot’s tactics getting the better of the Manchester side as Liverpool walked all over Guardiola’s side in the opening 45 minutes.

Robertson said: “We did really well, especially the first half, we pressed them high up and forced them into mistakes which they don’t usually make. The fans then come with you and then you get your noses in front. Everything went for us in the first half.

“We knew there would be a change in the second half, we knew they would bring on more width and attacking threat in terms of the wingers and that happened and caused us a bit of problems but I thought we stood up to that really well and defended our box really well.

“[We’re] delighted with the clean sheet when you play these big games, the clean sheet is where is starts and we have players up top who can score goals.”

Liverpool need to maintain this level of form in December

December is viewed by many as the most important month in the Premier League calendar due to how much football is played, with Liverpool last night playing their first of seven league games in the festive period.

With some huge ties coming up against the likes of Newcastle United, Everton and Tottenham, Liverpool’s title credentials will be tested yet again this month, with a real test of endurance about to start for the Reds.

Indeed, Liverpool have shown they can beat the best in Real Madrid and City with ease, but now the physical challenge is about to begin for the Anfield side, a test that Slot will be prepared for this December.
