Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou appeared to take a dig at rivals Arsenal after Spurs' draw against Fulham. The Cottagers took a point from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in their Premier League clash on Sunday, December 1.
Spurs are going through a major injury crisis, including both their main centre-backs. Micky van de Ven injured his hamstring in their EFL Cup Round of 16 win over Manchester City on October 30 and has been out since. Meanwhile, Cristian Romero has been out due to a foot injury since this month's international break. Radu Dragusin and Ben Davies have filled in admirably for the duo.
After Tottenham drew 1-1 against Fulham on Sunday, Ange was asked about their performance and he answered (via Goal):
“I've seen so much violin-playing over [other teams having] one centre-back out, but we're just supposed to get on with it. Benny and Radu have been outstanding throughout this spell. I mean there aren't too many teams in the league who have both their centre-backs out.
The beauty of it is these boys are, and I love that. I love the characters they're showing. I love the fact that they're not seeking excuses or wanting me to make allowances for it. But at some point, I need to also acknowledge the massive effort that all these guys are putting in. Radu and Ben were outstanding again today."
It appeared to be a dig at Arsenal's season during the 2022-23 Premier League title race. The Gunners led the table for 248 days but a collapse after an injury to centre-back William Saliba saw Manchester City win the title instead.
Mikel Arteta provides update on Gabriel Magalhaes' fitness after Arsenal's win over West Ham
The Gunners beat West Ham United 5-2 at the London Stadium in the Premier League on Saturday, November 30. Gabriel Magalhaes (10'), Leandro Trossard (27'), Martin Odegaard (34', p), and Kai Havertz (36') gave Arsenal a 4-0 lead. The Hammers got two back via Aaron Wan-Bissaka (38') and Emerson Palmieri (40'). However, Bukayo Saka converted a penalty in the fifth minute of first-half stoppage time to make it 5-2.
Gabriel was taken off at half-time due to an injury concern and replaced with Jakub Kiwior. After the game, manager Mikel Arteta provided an update on the Brazilian centre-back, saying (via Arsenal.com):
"It was related to the previous injury that he had in Lisbon and obviously he did great to be part of that but with that result and with the niggle that he’s feeling, we decided to take him off."
Gabriel has made 13 appearances in the Premier League this season, helping Arsenal keep four clean sheets. He's also scored three goals.
