Gary Neville to lose over $6,000 as Liverpool makes him eat his words for laughable prediction

Ex-Manchester United defender could be left with a red face after making a huge bet with Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher. The two agreed on a wager at the start of the season over which team would finish higher in the Premier League.

Currently, Neville might be feeling a bit embarrassed as Liverpool have surged nine points ahead at the top of English football, while United have just managed to break into the top half of the table following a 4-0 victory over Everton. This bet was initiated before United's opening day win against Fulham, where they started their campaign with a 1-0 triumph.

However, since then, they've slipped down the rankings, suffering a 3-0 defeat to Liverpool, leading to Erik ten Hag's dismissal. In contrast, Arne Slot has seemingly debunked the pre-season notion that his team would struggle post-Jurgen Klopp era.

Now, Liverpool are sitting comfortably nine points clear at the top of the Premier League and are also 15 points ahead of United, who haven't lost a game since Ruben Amorim took charge. But for Neville, he's staring at the possibility of losing over $6,000 (£5,000) due to his bet with his old adversary.

He stated back in August: "Before the game, you won't have seen it in the Sky Sports News cross, Carra and I had a £5,000 bet for charity that Liverpool would finish above Manchester United (or) Manchester United finish above Liverpool. Whoever loses has to pay."

Roy Keane heaped praise on Liverpool's stellar season thus far, despite previously doubting their prospects of finishing above United. On Sky Sports, Keane lauded the Reds: "Absolutely fantastic, we have to praise the manager and he has done an amazing job.

"They were a decent group he took over, whatever he has added to it his personality.... If you had said at the start of the season Liverpool would be where they are now you wouldn't believe them, you'd think they would need locking up. But their performances, defensively they are very good and their big players are turning up at big occasions."
