The future of Joshua Kimmich has been a great talking point in the transfer market over the past year or so.
The likes of Barcelona have been closely monitoring the situation of the midfielder, whose contract at Bayern Munich expires at the end of the season.
The soap opera continues even today, with Kimmich likely to be one of the players Barcelona will make a move for in the summer of 2025.
Kimmich sets a final date on decision over his future
After months of speculation, Kimmich has now finally offered an update on his future, notably confirming that he will be taking a final call on his future in the upcoming January transfer window.
“I won’t wait until the summer,” Kimmich told ZDF in a recent interaction (h/t Mundo Deportivo).
“I will sit down with the club this winter and try to see the bigger picture. In January I will make the right decision.”

This statement will surely be of interest to Barcelona, who are eyeing a move for a top midfielder in the summer of 2025.
However, the truth is that Kimmich’s renewal at Bayern Munich can never be ruled out.
The Bavarians are currently in negotiations with the player over a new contract. The club’s sporting director, Christoph Freund, has expressed optimism about the situation.
“We are in good negotiations,” he said. “Our wish is to close both deals (Kimmich and Musiala) as soon as possible, of course. But the most important thing is that in the end there is a positive result and they renew.”
This puts Barcelona in a difficult position. The club’s only leverage is to hope that Hansi Flick manages to convince the German international to put an end to his chapter at Bayern and start a new adventure at Barcelona next season.
