Ally McCoist believes Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold will join Real Madrid. The Reds full-back faces contract uncertainty with his current deal set to expire at the end of the season.

In recent months, speculation over an Anfield exit and subsequent switch to Spain has gathered momentum. The La Liga holders have been credited with significant interest in the defender as Los Blancos look to reinvent their side once more.

Alexander-Arnold has made a strong start to the Premier League campaign and played 70 minutes in their 2-0 win over Manchester City to send the Reds nine points clear at the top. The England international was forced to miss recent outings, only to return in the triumph over their title rivals on Sunday following a hamstring injury.

"I think Trent Alexander-Arnold will be at Real Madrid next season," said McCoist speaking to talkSPORT BET. "I hate to say it because I like to see the world’s best players staying in the Premier League and he is one of those.

"I think if he were to stay, he and Liverpool would’ve come to an agreement over a contract before now to secure his future at the club and the fact he hasn’t makes me think that Real Madrid is where he will be lining up next season."

The 26-year-old is one of three players currently under the spotlight over their futures. Captain Virgil van Dijk and star forward Mohamed Salah also face uncertainty over what colours they will be adorning next season - with their high-quality performances causing a headache for Liverpool decision-makers.

Van Dijk remains tentatively linked with moves away from Anfield, and was asked about whether he would sign for Real Madrid following Liverpool's 2-0 win over the Spanish side. Salah, on the other hand, has been the topic of intense speculation with a move to Saudi Arabia while switches to America and Paris Saint-Germain have emerged over the weekend via the rumour mill.
