Everton have been linked to a number of managers over the last few years since Carlo Ancelotti’s departure.
It’s been a wobbly time for Everton since 2021 as they’ve been involved in multiple relegation battles under Rafael Benitez, Frank Lampard and now Sean Dyche.
Dyche is under pressure and could be replaced by Maurizio Sarri in the coming weeks once the Friedkin Group complete their takeover.
Graham Potter, Edin Terzic and Sergio Conceicao are also believed to be among Everton’s shortlist of candidates.
That said, one of their former managerial targets is now on the verge of being sacked for the second time this year.

Wayne Rooney on the verge of being sacked by Plymouth Argyle
Wayne Rooney’s stock as a manager was really high a couple of years ago when he was managing Derby County in difficult circumstances.
Rooney wasn’t far off keeping them up despite points deductions and a multitude of problems off the pitch – which forced them to sell the majority of their key players.
It was at this time Everton approached him for an interview but he turned them down, insisting that he had unfinished business at Derby.

“Everton approached my agent and asked me to interview for the job,” Rooney said, via ESPN.
“But I turned it down. I believe I will be a Premier League manager and I am ready for that 100 percent. But I have a job at Derby, which is important to me.”
That decision now looks like a bad one, as just a couple of years later Rooney is on the verge of being sacked by Plymouth Argyle, according to the Telegraph.
That follows a failed stint at Birmingham City earlier this year, where he was dismissed after just 15 games.
Rooney’s dream of managing Everton now unlikely
Rooney has previously admitted that he’d love to manage his boyhood club Everton one day.
“And then Everton, Manchester United – two clubs close to my heart. Of course, one day I’d love to manage either of them clubs,” he told TNT Sports in 2022.
Those aspirations now look very slim after two failed jobs at Birmingham City and now Plymouth Argyle.
Perhaps Rooney will have to rebuild his career in League One or abroad but either way, he’s a long way of the Premier League now.
