A chief Real Madrid transfer target is reportedly close to extending his Bayern Munich contract. This is despite being wanted by Real Madrid...
Real Madrid are known for thinking two steps ahead. While they are the biggest club in the world and they are capable of spending big money on big players, they have preferred to sign players for reduced fees over the last few years.
To do so, Real Madrid have often dabbled into the free agent market. Their tactic has been to be patient with their transfer targets, safe in the knowledge that their preferred players will reject other offers and move to the Spanish capital for free upon the expiration of their contracts.
However, Alphonso Davies might be a lost cause.
According to an update from Sport, Alphonso Davies has lowered his salary expectations. This means that Bayern Munich are now able to offer closer to Davies' new expectations and the two parties are in talks about extending his contract.
Not only are Bayern Munich in talks with Alphonso Davies, the outlet also claims that the two parties are "close" to an agreement. This is despite Bayern Munich being in doubt over his future - They would like to sign him to a new contract before the end of the year, so by the end of this month.
Only recently, it was claimed that Alphonso Davies was open to joining Real Madrid's arch-rivals Barcelona. This should have been an immediate red flag for Real Madrid, hinting that Davies was not entirely serious about signing for Real Madrid.
Now, Real Madrid must consider other options. Thankfully for Los Blancos, Davies' position at left-back is not one under threat in the Spanish capital. Indeed, there is an ongoing injury crisis, however, the left-back position somehow remains unharmed. Touch wood, this only continues to be the case.
