Troy Deeney included three Chelsea players in his Premier League Team of the Week.
Former Watford striker Troy Deeney has praised a Chelsea defender after his impressive performances not just this week, but throughout his spell at Stamford Bridge.
They sit third in the league, level on points with Arsenal who are currently nine points behind league leaders Liverpool who beat Manchester City 2-0 at Anfield on Sunday. One player in particular who played well for the Blues was defender Marc Cucurella, who Troy Deeney included in his Team of the Week for BBC Sport.
Deeney revealed the Spaniard surprised him after he was initialy unsure whether Cucurella was a wise signing when the Blues bought him for £55m from Brighton two years ago. He said: “He has surprised me. I didn't think he was going to be that good. I also thought: Why did Chelsea buy him when they had Ben Chilwell? But clearly, they know more than me and they showed what they can do. He's doing really well.”

The former Watford man was also ready to praise Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez who has been inconsistent so far this season. He said: “I have criticised Sanchez because I think he is the reason that they are going to ultimately end up missing out on the top four. For the first time in a long time, he got a clean sheet - so you have to give him some credit and say well done to him.”
