Virgil van Dijk insists Liverpool will not be distracted by the club's triple contract stand-off.

Liverpool captain van Dijk and fellow stars Mo Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold all see their deals expire at the end of the season. Salah’s future is particularly under the spotlight after the Liverpool forward admitted publicly he could leave this summer while Real Madrid are courting Alexander-Arnold.

However, van Dijk - who looks set to stay - says the doubts surrounding three of the club’s biggest stars will not derail their chances of winning the Premier League title.

When asked about Salah’s future, van Dijk said: “As players we don't worry about any of that. You are playing games and he is still part of all of us so we want to achieve success and that's what he wants as well.”

Liverpool are already nine points clear at the top and their win over Manchester City pushed them 11 clear of the reigning champions. They face Newcastle on Wednesday and the Merseyside derby with Everton on Saturday lunchtime so it will be a testing time for Arne Slot ’s men.

Van Dijk says they are not thinking of anything but the next game even though their lightning start is reminiscent of the last time they won the title in 2020.

Van Dijk added: “It feels solid. It feels that we are making good steps. I want to be there at the end of the season, that's the aim, and in order to be there at the end of the season we have to focus on what's ahead of us and not thinking about what's there in January or February.

“Now it's Newcastle and it's about doing everything in my power and our power to be ready for a big one there as well.

“We want to be consistent, we want to keep winning games, we don't want to have injuries – unfortunately we have again some so we need everyone to focus on what's ahead of us but not what's ahead of us in the next month, now Newcastle is the full focus.”
