Simon Jordan said a week ago that Chelsea could finish in second, and a big win over Aston Villa has only helped his case.
Manchester City are crumbling and Chelsea can still get better. It’s not a crazy shout by any means – no matter what manager Enzo Maresca says.
Jordan was on TalkSport today with former Aston Villa boss Martin O’Neill, and they agreed that this is no mirage: Chelsea are the real deal, not just on a good run. They both agreed that Maresca was making the right move in playing down his team’s form.
“Ask him again in March, if Chelsea are 3 points behind the league leaders,” Jordan quipped.

Players and project both changing minds as Chelsea top table
Jordan has backed the owners and their project since day one, and isn’t afraid to take a little victory lap now things are going well. But even he had some doubts on players which he admits he’s had to revise:
“All of those on the sidelines saying they were a car crash, a disaster… here they are at the top of the Premier League… in a great position, and if you look at the players you had question marks over… even Enzo is starting to look like the player they paid for,” the former Crystal Palace owner said.
He had previously called the sum of money spent buying Enzo Fernandez from Benfica “preposterous.”
“I don’t think they’re going to win the league, but they’re in a very competitive position,” Jordan concluded.
The improvements all around in individual performances and in team structure are certainly impressing people around the league – and Jordan can say he was always a believer.
