Liverpool chasing ‘next Bukayo Saka’

Liverpool produced a fine display to defeat reigning champions Manchester City 2-0 and move nine points clear at the top on Sunday.

Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah were on target for the Reds either side of half-time, extending City’s winless run to seven matches across all competitions.

Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has enjoyed a sensational start to his tenure at Anfield and has his side currently sat top of both the Premier League and Champions League tables.

The Dutchman will hope to see his side’s superb form continue when they face Newcastle United on Wednesday but, in the meantime, it appears that the Reds are chasing a highly rated winger.

As per Football Insider, the Merseyside outfit are working on a deal to sign Gent star Momodou Sonko.

The 19-year-old joined Belgian side Gent from Swedish outfit Hacken in January this year, and has since played 24 times for his current club.

The teenager’s style of play has seen him labelled the ‘next Bukayo Saka’, and the report claims that Liverpool are hoping to sign the youngster as they look to bolster Slot’s squad with promising young talent.

Like Saka, the teenager can play on either flank but primarily operates on the right.

It is suggested that Liverpool are on the hunt for reinforcements on the right of their attack amid ongoing uncertainty surrounding the future of talisman Mohamed Salah.

Having only joined Gent in January, Sonko is contracted to the Belgian side until the end of the 2027/28 season which could mean Liverpool may struggle to lure him to Anfield.

Sonko has been capped four times by Sweden at senior level and continues to impress for Gent, and the report suggests that there is a growing feeling that a move to the Premier League is his most likely next step.
