Chelsea predicted XI vs Southampton as'brilliant'player makes himself undroppable to Enzo Maresca

Chelsea do not have long to wait before they are back in action in the Premier League following their 3-0 win over Aston Villa at the weekend.

The Blues will be taking a trip to the South Coast to take on Southampton, who remain rooted to the foot of the Premier League table.

Enzo Maresca has normally made a number of changes when his side have taken part in midweek action, although that has always been for cup action where the quality of opposition is normally a lot lower.

The Chelsea Chronicle have predicted the starting XI as the Blues look to make it three wins in a row in the Premier League since the international break.

Chelsea predicted XI vs Southampton

A far better performance from Robert Sanchez against Villa justified Maresca’s unwavering backing of him, and he will start in goal again against the Saints.

Malo Gusto will return to the starting side after coming off the bench on Sunday. The Blues did not name a recognised right-back in their XI against Villa.

An injury to Wesley Fofana will see Benoit Badiashile make his second Premier League start, and have a real chance to prove himself as a genuine starting option for Chelsea.

He will be partnered by Levi Colwill, who remains a Premier League ever-present starter this season in his preferred position.

Marc Cucurella was exceptional again at the weekend, and will continue in the left-back role against Southampton on Wednesday.

After starting on the right of defence at the weekend, Moises Caicedo will return to his natural role in the middle of midfield at St. Mary’s.

Enzo Fernandez undroppable at Chelsea

He will be joined in the middle of the park by the ‘brilliant’ Enzo Fernandez, who has made himself undroppable with his recent run of form, particularly in front of goal.

Ahead of those two will be Cole Palmer, who ended his three game run without a goal with a sensational strike against Villa.

Pedro Neto will continue in his preferred position on the right wing. He looked a real threat throughout on Sunday.

Mykhailo Mudryk will come into the side in place of Jadon Sancho, who has just started two games in a row following his return from injury.

Up front, Nicolas Jackson will keep Christopher Nkunku out of the side, as he looks for three goals in as many games since the international break.
