Hansi Flick confirms Barcelona star is ‘very close’ to first appearance of the season

Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has provided a fresh update on the wellbeing of defensive star Ronald Araújo.

And the news is of an altogether encouraging nature.

Defender Araújo was for his part condemned to a long-term spell on the sidelines back in early-July.

This came owing to a serious hamstring injury, suffered whilst lining out for his native Uruguay during the latest edition of the Copa América.

The 25-year-old has remained on the sidelines ever since, sitting out Barcelona’s fine opening to the campaign under new boss Hansi Flick.

With Andreas Christensen sidelined long-term, too, and Eric García struggling for fitness, it is safe to say that Araújo’s return would therefore come as a welcome one for Hansi Flick and his coaching staff.

And, as alluded to above, if the latest comments on the part of boss Hansi Flick are anything to go by, then as much is inching ever closer to becoming reality.

Speaking in his latest pre-match press conference ahead of Barcelona’s meeting with Mallorca on Tuesday, Flick was asked for an update on Araújo’s wellbeing.

And the German tactician went on to confirm:

”Ronald is doing very well and is improving at a very good level, he is very close to being able to play, I cannot say if it will be next week, I do not want to put pressure, but the sensations are very good in training.”
